The Horses

Just a quick bit about my horses….

Athena

Sweet Sweet Athena is a 2008 Kentucky Mountain Spotted Mare

I have owned Athena since 2016. She was given to me as a surprise Christmas gift from a Facebook friend. Athena and I have both camped and trail ridden over several thousand miles together. She has won many ribbons at gaited horse shows, and ridden in parades. We have participated in cattle round ups, and looked for a lost mule. We are also part of the Smoke Rise gang, who rob the Scenic Hocking Railway during the tourist season. She has been used for pony rides and ponying my green horses. For the past few years, in addition to guiding, she has been my Mounted Shooting partner. We have even competed at the Ohio State Fair.

Sterling

AL MUTHALASS BJ- better known as Sterling. He is a 2012 Egyptian Arabian Gelding

I have owned Sterling since he was weanling, November 2012. He was the first horse that I started since I was in my 20’s. I put all the foundation on him prior to him going to a trainer as a six year old, for 60 days to transition from an arena horse, to a trail horse.  Sterling had a very short stint as a show horse, competing in Western Dressage and Ranch Riding. We ended up moving, then covid happened. During covid we discovered the Hocking State Forest bridle trails. The rest, they say, is history. The showing plan went out the window. Sterling and I have also both camped and trail ridden over several thousand miles together. Sterling has participated in cattle round ups and attended a few Mounted Shooting practices. We have ridden in parades, and enjoy trying new things. He did attend one train robbery, but wasn’t sure if he liked it or not. He is a true ambassador for his breed, impressing people and gathering new fans each time we go out.

Gemma

La Gemma Della Luna- better known as Gemma. She is a 2017  Half Arabian/Half Paint Mare

Gemma has not yet been used as a guide horse, although I plan on putting her in the rotation starting the 2025 season. I own her Dam (Lunasea- registered Paint mare) and picked out her Sire (Thee Onyx- registered Arabian stallion). Her name literary means, Gem from the Moon. She has been mine since she was a dot on an ultrasound. I have done 100% of all her training, so far. We have also camped and trail ridden hundreds of miles. Given pony rides and participated in a horse show. She has also been ridden in a few parades. She is not rock steady like Athena and Sterling, but she will get there with more miles.
