The Wayne National Forest is just an hour away and it offers a network of scenic horse trails that wind through diverse landscapes, providing a truly immersive equestrian experience.
One popular route is the Stone Church Horse Trail System, named for the haunting remains of an old stone church nestled amongst the trees. This system boasts over 21 miles of trails, ranging from gentle meanders through open fields to challenging climbs through mature forests. Riders are treated to breathtaking vistas, with rolling hillsides carpeted in vibrant wildflowers during spring and summer.
The Kinderhook Horse Trail offers a unique adventure along the Ohio River. This rugged terrain features steep hills and deep valleys, providing a thrilling challenge for both horse and rider. As you navigate the single-track trails, you’ll encounter breathtaking views of the river, with its sparkling waters reflecting the changing hues of the sky.
Regardless of the chosen trail, riders will encounter a variety of wildlife, from soaring hawks and playful squirrels to deer gracefully bounding through the undergrowth. The quietude of the forest is often broken only by the gentle clip-clop of hooves on the trail and the rustling of leaves in the breeze.
The Wayne National Forest offers a truly unforgettable equestrian experience, where the beauty of the natural world unfolds at every turn.
